Becoming a Member of the Church
At Meldrum & Bourtie Parish Church we believe that membership matters.

Membership isn’t about perks and privileges. Rather, it’s about you responding to God’s call on your life to step up and belong to this community as you pursue the passion God has set in your heart. By joining Meldrum & Bourtie Parish Church you are taking the next step to partner with us as we seek to cultivate a community of justice, peace, and love that transforms the world.

Our minister leads a class to walk you through the membership process. This orientation session provides a warm and relaxing environment where we share our stories of what God is doing in our lives and learn how we as individuals can partner with the transformative ministries of this congregation.
Adults enter membership of the Church through a special service called Confirmation in which they make promises. If they have not already been baptised they will also have to be baptised first and this is usually done at the same service. An adult baptism is still done in the church and does not involve a swimming pool! You are baptised in the same way as children with the minister making the sign of the cross on your forehead with water from the font.

To learn more about joining the church or to sign up for an upcoming membership class, please contact our Minister or Session Clerk. You are not committed to anything until you make your promises which we hope you will still want to do at the end of the course.

These are the promises you make at your confirmation service.
The minister will speak these directly to you:

“Believing in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and confessing Jesus Christ as your saviour and Lord, do you promise to join regularly with your fellow Christians in worship on the Lord’s Day?”
“Do you promise to be faithful in reading the Bible and in prayer?”
“Do you promise to give a fitting proportion of your time, talents and money for the Church’s work in the world?”
“Do you promise, depending on the grace of God, to profess publicly your loyalty to Jesus Christ, to serve him in your daily work and to walk in his ways all the days of your life?”
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Church of Scotland please speak with our Session Clerk on 07968 000610.
